In Alpha Gamma Delta we have two main functions of philanthropy: service and fundraising. Service is the hands-on component of giving back to our communities. Fundraising entails any monetary donation to an organization.
Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropic focus is fighting hunger. One in eight Americans and one in eight Canadians struggle with hunger. It's a cause that knows no bounds. It affects every race, age and community. Including the communities where we are placed. That is why we want to be a part of the solution. Through partnering with national and local organizations, we are able to make an impact on our communities.
We are proud partners of Feeding America and Meals on Wheels. Through these partnerships we're able to provide awareness on a national level while also partnering with local agencies where our collegiate chapters and alumnae chapters/clubs are located.
Our impact is enhanced through fundraising for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. They provide fighting hunger grants to various organizations that are doing their part in their local community to fight hunger. Alpha Gams love giving back in the community where they are placed! Big or small, we know we can make a difference in our world.
Since its founding, Epsilon Omega has worked diligently to give back to Alpha Gamma Delta, the organization that has provided opportunities for us to become more confident women and stronger leaders, by donating money to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. For 21 years, we have been honored to be recognized as members of Jewel Society, which means that we have donated $2,000 or more to the Foundation annually.
Some of the events that have helped us reach this goal include:
- Dodging for Diabetes, a dodgeball tournament for students we host in the spring
- Let Go For Love (co-hosted with Delta Phi Epsilon), a fundraising and service event in one where women donate 8 inches or more of their hair to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths Campaign. These women are sponsored by campus organizations, who raise money to support their women. The organization that raises the most money is awarded a portion of the proceeds for their philanthropy.
- Frats at Bat (co-hosted with Sigma Kappa), a co-ed softball tournament for campus organizations in the fall
- Donut and Coffee bake sales
Our chapter was also the recipient of the 2016 Inclusivity Award for Organizations, which donated $200 to our philanthropic efforts.
